About Lesson
Why is PPE Important?
Personal Protective Equipment is crucial in reducing the risk of laser-related injuries. Depending on the laser class and its specific applications, different types of PPE are used.
-
Laser Safety Glasses/Goggles:
- Designed with filters to block specific wavelengths of laser light. Different glasses are required for different laser wavelengths (e.g., infrared or visible light).
- Example: For a Class 4 CO₂ laser, specialized goggles with appropriate optical density are mandatory.
-
Protective Clothing:
- Flame-resistant materials and long-sleeved garments protect against burns and fire hazards when exposed to laser beams.
- Functionality: Reduces skin exposure in environments where high-intensity lasers are in use.
-
Eye Protection:
- Laser-specific eye protection is critical for preventing damage from laser radiation. Correct lenses are chosen based on the laser’s wavelength and intensity.
